Thermo Tune
Subtract 32, then multiply by 5/9. Drag the thermometer to the answer and lock in. Within 1 degree counts.
How to play Thermo Tune
Each round shows a temperature in degrees Fahrenheit. Drag up or down on the thermometer to set the matching Celsius reading and press Lock in. An answer within 1°C counts as correct. There are eight rounds.
The math behind it
To convert Fahrenheit to Celsius, subtract 32 and multiply by 5/9. For 68°F, that is (68 − 32) × 5/9 = 20°C. To go the other way, multiply by 9/5 and add 32.
A mental shortcut is to subtract 30 and halve the result. It gives 19°C for 68°F, close enough for a weather forecast. Two anchors are worth memorizing: 32°F is 0°C and 212°F is 100°C.
When you need it
Most of the world uses Celsius, while US weather, cooking and thermostats use Fahrenheit. The F to C calculator converts any reading exactly, and the temperature converter also gives kelvin.
