How to play Percent Pop

Each round shows a question such as 15% of 80 and drops four numbered bubbles. Click the bubble with the correct answer before the bubbles reach the floor. A correct pop scores a point and speeds the next round up. A wrong pop or a miss costs one of your three lives.

The math behind it

To find a percentage of a number, divide the percent by 100 and multiply. 15% of 80 is 0.15 × 80 = 12. A faster mental route is to start from 10%: move the decimal one place (8), take half of that for 5% (4), and add them (12).

Other anchors help too: 50% is half, 25% is a quarter, 75% is three quarters, and 20% is one fifth. If you can build any percent from 10%, 5% and 1%, you can answer these questions in a second or two.

Why practice percentages

Percentages are behind discounts, sales tax, tips, interest rates and tax brackets. Being quick at them makes it easy to sanity-check a price or a loan offer. When you want exact figures, use the percentage calculator, and the discount and tip calculators for shopping and dining.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate a percentage in my head?

Find 10% by moving the decimal one place, then add or halve it. For 15% of 80: 10% is 8, 5% is 4, so the answer is 12.

What is the fastest way to find 25% of a number?

Divide by 4. A quarter of 80 is 20, so 25% of 80 is 20.

Does the game get harder?

Yes. The bubbles fall faster with every correct answer, so your reaction time matters as much as the math.

Is Percent Pop free?

Yes. It runs in your browser with no sign-up and nothing is stored.
