About ToCalculator
Last updated:
ToCalculator is a free collection of calculators built for people in the United States. Amounts are in US dollars, measurements use US units, and tax, benefit and price figures come from federal sources.
Our goal is to make common calculations easier to inspect: each tool shows its inputs, results, method and, when available, the source material behind the figures. ToCalculator is an informational website, not a financial, tax, health or government service.
Our data sources
- Internal Revenue Service (IRS): tax brackets, standard deductions and retirement plan limits.
- Social Security Administration (SSA): the payroll tax wage base and benefit claiming rules.
- Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS): the Consumer Price Index (CPI-U) for inflation.
- Energy Information Administration (EIA): average electricity and gasoline prices, used for default values.
- Other calculators cite the relevant agency or primary source on their page when one is available.
How we build and check calculators
Each calculator page describes its method and lists source links where available. We translate a published rule or standard formula into a calculation, then use automated tests to check representative inputs and expected results. A passing test checks the implementation; it does not certify that an estimate is suitable for every person or situation.
We distinguish official figures from approximations and projections in the calculator's explanation. When an input varies by location, provider or personal circumstances, the calculator may use an example default; users should replace it with a current value that applies to them. We do not present a rough estimate as an official determination.
Updates and corrections
Time-sensitive federal figures are reviewed when agencies publish new limits or data. Individual calculator pages may show an update date when a specific change has been made. If you find a possible error, send us the page address, the inputs and the result you expected. We will investigate and correct confirmed errors.
Editorial responsibility
Content is published under the pseudonym Farrow. The author's identity is not disclosed, and no professional credentials or licenses are claimed. Editorial checks are not professional tax, financial, legal or medical advice.
Privacy
Calculator computations run in your browser. The values you enter are not sent to our servers by the calculator itself. See our privacy policy for information about site analytics and other website technologies.
Guides
We also publish explanations of common calculations in our blog. Articles cite primary sources when a government figure or rule is discussed.
