How does the Options Profit Calculator work?
A long call pays the amount the stock finishes above the strike; a long put pays the amount below it. Each contract covers 100 shares.
Profit is that payoff minus the premium you paid. Break-even is the strike plus the premium for calls, or minus it for puts. Fees are not included.
Frequently asked questions
How much can I lose on a long option?
Only the premium you paid. The loss is capped at that amount.
What is the break-even on a call?
The strike price plus the premium paid per share.
Does this show profit before expiration?
No. Before expiration time value matters. This shows the payoff at expiration.
Do commissions change the result?
Yes. Brokers charge per contract, which lowers your profit slightly. Subtract them from the result.
