How does the GPA Calculator work?
Each letter grade maps to grade points on the common 4.0 scale (A = 4.0, A- = 3.7, B+ = 3.3 and so on). Quality points = grade points × credits, and GPA = total quality points ÷ total credits.
To include your earlier record, enter your current GPA and credits; the cumulative GPA weights both by credits. Schools may use slightly different scales or weights, so check your registrar.
Frequently asked questions
How is GPA calculated?
Multiply each course's grade points by its credit hours, add them up, then divide by total credit hours.
Do all courses count equally?
No. A 4-credit course affects your GPA more than a 1-credit course.
Does this handle weighted GPAs?
It uses the standard unweighted 4.0 scale. Honors or AP weighting varies by school.
What GPA do I need for a 3.5?
Mostly A and A- grades with a few B+ courses. Enter your grades to test different combinations.
